Thanks to the downsizing of the company we worked for, we were each able to take a severance package in the fall of 2001. We paid off our bills, moved out of our apartment and and spent a blissfully decadent winter in Mexico and Australia.
With the money running low, we got back to Canada in the spring of 2002, and retreated to our small property in the Haliburton Highlands, with a view to fixing it up and selling it, before moving on to fresh pastures in western Canada.
