That's it...
we're outta here!
The property sold after just one week on the market.
It's the beginning of September, the first signs of fall are
in the air as we bid a fond farewell to the Haliburton Highlands.
We're moving to the west coast!
|
What
have we learned?
1. The building of a safe,
sound, attractive residence is not just the
domain of the professional "builder".
Anyone can do it.
2. Immersing oneself in a new
lifestyle is not to be feared.
3. Keeping one foot in your
"old life" can be counterproductive.
4. Silence and solitude are
nothing to be afraid of.
5. Being busy is not necessarily
being productive.
6. Being stuck in a debt-ridden,
9-to-5 rut is far worse than taking a chance on a
new life. |
 |
This was our yard sale
during the labour day weekend. We sold or gave away the remainder
of our "old life" household effects, and we made $850 to
pay for gas and lodging on our way out west.
 |
Q: How much stuff can you squeeze into a
Toyota Echo?
A: You'd be amazed! At least650 pounds of household effects, and
400 pounds of us, and we still didn't hit bottom..... often. |
We drove our overloaded Echo
4,812 kilometres from our lovely old home in
Hooterville, Ontario to our lovely new home in
British Columbia.
Thanks to our profitable yardsale, we were able to take things
easy along the way, enjoy the scenery and the sunshine, and sleep
in some fairly reputable motels.
We have all kinds of plans (some sound and rational, some kooky
and bizarre) and we figure that by the time spring has sprung,
we'll have a small business up and running, generating some dollars
to keep us afloat. |
 |
 |
So, for the moment, there's no "homestead"
to talk about, but we're still committed to a life of
simplicity, debt freedom, constant learning, and fun.
Thanks for checking out our website.
